Part of what makes designing chairs both enjoyable–and challenging–is that they must balance form and function more thoughtfully than any other category. No matter how beautiful a chair my be, it is ultimately a failure if it is not also comfortable.
Our desire to balance form and function results is endless sketches, discussions with our customers, rounds of prototypes, and ultimately testing. In a world filled with office chairs, I still chose the Gilbert chair for my desk.
